Gumbo Cook-Off Rules & Entry

Seven month old, Adalynn Rose Guidroz was selected as the beneficiary for The 2018 Gumbo Cook-Off, scheduled for Saturday, January 27th, 2018. Adalynn, daughter of Brooke Gerace & Jason Guidroz of Palmetto, LA, is affectionately known as Addie. At 22 weeks gestation, her parents were given terrible news, that something was severely wrong, and at 24 weeks a maternal fetal specialist confirmed it was spina bifida. Due to the severity, hydrocephalus began to occur in the womb resulting in the malformation of Addie’s brain tissue. Given the grave prognosis, her family put their faith in God and on February 1, 2017 Adalynn Rose Guidroz was born by C-section at Women’s & Children’s in Lafayette. This was the first of many miracles. She weighed 10 pounds and was breathing on her own, despite an expectation that permanent ventilation would be necessary to help Addie breathe. Shortly after delivery, she underwent a nearly six-hour emergency surgery to place an external drain to assist with the hydrocephalus, along with a partial back closure. This was just the first of many surgeries to come. After 24 days and multiple surgeries, it was felt that she should be transferred to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans where the pediatric neurosurgery team could be readily available. She remained in the NICU at Children’s Hospital for three months undergoing several brain surgeries, shunt placements, and multiple wound closures.

Adalynn was finally discharged on May 20, 2017 and was welcomed home by her very anxious, smiling big sister Rylee. Addie has made miraculous progress, but still has a long road ahead. Her family will continue traveling back and forth to New Orleans to continue Addie’s care and for future surgeries, along with multiple trips each week for physical, occupational and speech therapy. Please join us in showing Addie and her family all the love and support The Gumbo Foundation supporters and our community has to offer.

As always, much love, many thanks, and God Bless!
